Peabody Memorial High School Student Receives MIAA Student-Athlete of the Month Award for May 2024

The Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association is proud to announce that Abigail Bettencourt of Peabody Memorial High School is the recipient of its Student-Athlete of the Month for May 2024.

Nominated by her Volleyball coach Lisa Keene, Abigail is a three-sport athlete excelling at volleyball, basketball, and softball for the Tanners.  A captain of all three sports, Abigail also received honors in these sports.  In volleyball, she was the Co-MVP, Salem News All-Star, MACVCA All State Team, Lynn Item All-Star, and the NEC Player of the Year as a Senior.  As a basketball player, Abigail also received the Rookie of the Year Award as a freshman, Salem News All -Star all four years, and an NEC All-star every year.  Her accolades did not end in the Spring as a softball player, Abigail also received the Boston Globe Athlete of the Year, co-MVP for the Tanners, and the NEC player of the year for three consecutive years.  She will go down as one of the most decorated athletes for the Tanners.

Her accomplishments in the classroom were just as impressive as her success on the playing field.  She is a member of the National Honor Society, received the Harvard Book Award, was named an AP Scholar, served on the Executive Board of DECA, and participated on the Math Team.  Her class rank is 3 out of 292.

Finally, Abigail serves her community in many areas as a youth volunteer basketball, volleyball, and softball coach.  She is also active in Unified Sports and Best Buddies and raised over $1,000 for cancer research in her participation in A Shot for Life.  Abigail also serves on the Mayor’s Council in Peabody and attended the Annual NEC Leadership Conference.
