Jason Fournier of Leicester HS: Student-Athlete of the Month for November 2024

Posted: January 6, 2025

The MIAA is proud to announce that Jason Fournier of Leicester High School has been selected as the Student of the Month for November. Jason was nominated by Norman Everett, cross country and track coach at Leicester High School.

As Coach Everett said in his nomination, “Jason has demonstrated academic leadership and excellence at Leicester High School. He holds two major leadership positions within the Class of 2025. First, Jason's leadership and personality have led to his election as the Class of 2025's class treasurer over the last three consecutive years. I have seen Jason's leadership skills personally through his role as a member of the National Honor Society. Here, he utilized his experience in both cross country and track to create and coordinate a 5K road race at Leicester High School in May 2024. In this role, he organized a team of juniors to solicit donations and create a 5K course. All proceeds of this race went to the Leicester High School Boosters club. The 5K event raised about $2,000."

Academically, Jason is near the top of his class. He ranks 9th overall and 5th amongst male seniors. He has entered his senior year with a challenging workload which includes AP Calculus and a college level English course. Despite this heavy workload, he is currently set to earn High Honor Roll.

Coach Everett served as Jason’s 6th grade teacher and commented, “He was both in my homeroom and history class. In my history class, he was always a class leader in both academic performance and
leadership.”

Jason has been a three-season athlete at Leicester since middle school. Since that time, he has earned an all-star selection in every season of eligibility. He has also qualified for the All-State Meet every year since 2021. His 2024 season has been the best overall season for any Leicester runner. In his final home meet of the season, he set the Leicester home course record. He was also nearly undefeated within the South Worcester County League, winning 6 of 7 races. He ended the season with a victory in the SWCL League Meet on October 21, 2024. In this meet, he beat the one athlete who had previously broken up his perfect season. More importantly, he became Leicester's first ever male athlete to win the League Championship. The SWCL victory marked the 24th race that he has won in his time at Leicester. No other Leicester runner has won as many races. Jason also holds the record for the Leicester Middle School course, which he set in 2019 as a 7th grade student.

Jason's second sport is track, in which he competes in both of the most challenging distance events, the mile and 2-mile. He has qualified for states in the 2-mile many times. He placed second overall in the 2024 SWCL outdoor meet in the mile; accomplishing this feat after running the 2-mile earlier in the day with little rest in between events. Jason has also shown skill as a multi-event athlete, running the District E Decathlon in May 2024. His performance in all 10 events of the decathlon led Leicester to its first-ever team victory at this event. He has also earned league all-star recognition in nearly every season of eligibility.

In between the cross country and track seasons, Jason competes on the Leicester varsity basketball team.

The MIAA congratulates Jason and all of Leicester High School.
