Senior captain Caroline Doherty finished her standout career with a hat trick and top-seeded Hingham High School took home its first state championship in 14 years with a 5-2 victory over the Bishop Stang High School co-op.

Doherty’s two second-period goals 1:51 apart broke a 1-1 tie and sent the Harborwomen (24-1-1) on the way to the third state title in program history, joining teams from 2008 and 2011.

Doherty then capped her hat trick to make it 4-1 with 4:17 to play, finishing her career with 152 goals. Her 234 points are among the top 20 all-time for MIAA girls ice hockey players.

Addy Garrity, another senior captain, scored Hingham’s final goal to make it 5-1 with 46 seconds to play. Garrity also added an assist on Doherty’s second tally.

Sophomore Isa Rioux (who attends Dartmouth High School) gave No. 15 seed Bishop Stang a 1-0 lead 9:50 into the game, but Hannah Lasch tied it for Hingham just 2:01 later.

Sophomore Ashley Smith (Apponequet Regional) scored in the final minute for Stang (18-6-1), which had never won a tournament game before making its run to the state final this year.

Sophomore Izzi Puleo had 16 saves for the Harborwomen before being replaced late by junior Izzy McGarr (1 save). Dartmouth freshman Vivienne Melo made 23 stops for the Spartans.

Senior captain Maeve Kelly scored 1:13 into the game to put the Warriors on top, and Perachi and the Medfield defense made it stand the rest of the way despite several good opportunities from the Wildcats to break through.

Junior Genna McDonald finally got some insurance for Medfield with 4:14 to go in the second period, and it stayed that way until an empty net tally from freshman Anne Flippo with 46 seconds to play.
