MIAA Girls Lacrosse Championships: Notre Dame Academy makes it three straight; Central Catholic, Medfield, Cohasset rise to challenge
One school continued a recent dynasty with its third straight championship, two others returned to the winners' circle, and another capped its rise to prominence with the program's first title. Those were the storylines from the 2024 MIAA Girls Lacrosse Championships.
Here is a look at the action:
Division 1
Central Catholic 14, Wellesley 8 - The top-seeded Raiders capped their storybook season with the first championship in program history, slipping past the No. 2 Raiders at Burlington HS.
Senior Nicolette Licare had 5 goals and junior Kerri Finneran 4 goals to spark the victory for Central, which was making its first championship game appearance.
Junior Olivia Comella scored 3 goals for Wellesley, which trailed 6-4 at halftime but never could erase an early deficit.
Division 2
Notre Dame Academy 14, Walpole 10 - The top-seeded Cougars made it three consecutive state championships, but had to fend off a tough change from the second-seeded Timberwolves at Weymouth HS.
Seniors Siobhan Colin and Jane Hilsabeck scored 4 goals apiece for NDA, which has won five state championships overall. Junior Emma Connerty also scored twice.
Walpole, playing in its first state final, got 3 goals from sophomore Emily Hagan and 2 goals from junior Jenna Wong.
Division 3
Medfield 14, Newburyport 10 - The top-seeded Warriors added a third state championship to the program's trophies from 2012 and 2022, battling past the No. 2 seed Clippers at Burlington HS.
Senior Alex Proefrock scored 4 goals to pace Medfield's offense, followed by senior Kelly Blake and junior Kendall Herrick with 3 goals each.
Seniors Olivia McDonald and Lilly Pons, and junior Reese Bromby had 3 goals each for Newburyport, which was defending Division 3 champion and had won its previous two title game appearances.
Division 4
