MIAA Ice Hockey Committee Highlights

Posted: September 30, 2024

The following are highlights from the MIAA Ice Hockey Committee meeting that took place September 30, 2024 at the MIAA Offices in Franklin. These highlights are not intended as a substitute for official meeting minutes, which will be posted if approved by the respective commitments at a future date.

  • New officers were elected:
    • Dan Shine, Chair
    • Bob Ware, Vice-Chair
    • Michael Mead, Secretary
  • The committee had discussion among members about the current state of ice hockey officials' fees. No action taken
  • The tournament format, already completed and approved in May 2024, was discussed with a review about the video replay proposal for state finals only, overtime procedure for tournament games and goal judges.  The committee rescinded their recommendation to add goal judges beginning in the round of 8 given the inability of sites that have goal judge equipment and a position to sit within the rink.  Chair Shine and Vice-Chair Ware will plan on discussing the video replay proposal with the TMC when they consider the format.
  • NFHS rules for 2024-25 now include required neck laceration protectors.  This information has been communicated to member schools.
  • The annual Officials Pre-Season Summit will be reconsidered for a possible every other year event.
  • The MIAA 2025-27 rules change packet was voted on.
