Rachel Egan of Watertown HS: Student-Athlete of the Month for October 2024

Posted: December 12, 2024

The MIAA is proud to announce that Rachel Egan, a senior at Watertown High School, has been awarded the Student-Athlete of the Month Award for the Month of October.

Rachel was nominated by Watertown High School athletic director Ryan Murphy. A multisport athlete for the Raiders, Rachel has also excelled in the classroom. Rachel is a high honor roll student and has achieved academic excellence in all three years; having a 4.0-plus grade point average every term each year. Rachel has also received the Saint Michael's College Book Award for Academic Achievement and Social Conscience. This is awarded for students' academic success and exemplary community service involvement. Rachel is also currently taking several AP and Honors-level classes.

Rachel has also made a great impact on her community by serving in several different capacities to assist others. Whether it is volunteering at youth Field Hockey Clinics every Saturday in the Fall, or dedicating numerous hours for the town’s learn-to-skate program, Rachel has been a mentor for the next generation of athletes. Not limited to athletics, Rachel is also invested in the arts in her school as she volunteered for school plays in the 10th grade and managed ticket sales and greeted guests at the theater.

Although her accomplishments away from the athletics are impressive, she may be best known for her success on the fields and rinks of Watertown. The list seems endless as Rachel, most impressively has not lost a field hockey game in her entire career at Watertown, winning four state titles while captaining the team her senior year. According to athletic director Murphy, here is a list of pre-season accomplishments for Rachel prior to her senior year:

  • Scored 45 goals and has 33 assists
  • Max Field Hockey All New England Region 1st Team
  • Boston Globe All-Scholastic
  • Boston Herald All-Scholastic
  • NFHCA Massachusetts All-Region First Team
  • NFHCA National Academic Squad (Scholar of Distinction)
  • Middlesex League All-Star and Member of the All-Conference Team
  • MAX Field Hockey New England Region players to watch (twice)
  • NFHCA High School Watch List (twice)
  • MSFHCA Rising Sophomore Squad
  • MAX Field Hockey top 150 players to watch in 2025

“Over her time at Watertown High School, Rachel has been involved in our field hockey, ice hockey, indoor track, and outdoor track programs," Murphy said. "As a senior, Rachel will captain our field hockey, indoor, and outdoor track programs. This alone demonstrates how Rachel is thought of by her peers and coaches. Rachel won many awards during her Watertown athletic career, including All-Scholastic, League All-Star, and All-Conference nominations. Rachel has verbally committed to continuing playing field hockey after high school at the College of the Holy Cross. I am sure many more accolades will be added to her list over the course of the athletic year.”

Congratulations to Rachel and the entire Watertown High School community.
