Stoughton Boys Basketball Team Named 2024-25 MIAA Community Service Challenge First Half Winner

Posted: April 8, 2025

The MIAA is proud to announce that the Stoughton High School boys basketball team is the winner of the first half of the 2024-2025 MIAA Community Service Challenge. The MIAA Student Advisory Committee reviewed more than 200 exceptional submissions before selecting the winner.

The Stoughton High School boys basketball team came together to show support for their coach, Evan Taylor, who is currently battling lymphoma. On January 3, the team organized a “Taylor Tough” Night, in which all 12 Hockomock League boys basketball teams participated in the fundraiser. Players wore “Taylor Tough” shirts before their game against Mansfield High School.

Senior captain Matt Greenspoon shared, “Evan Taylor is not just a great coach, he's an even better person. His leadership goes beyond the game, inspiring those around him to be their best both on and off the court.”

Stoughton High School Athletic Director Robin Ireland reflected on the team’s dedication to Coach Taylor: “For me, this is what being a Stoughton athlete is all about. Stepping outside of the need for personal achievement and putting teammates and the program first. They recognized that this would be an important fight and one which needed the entire community to get behind. It is also a testament to Coach Taylor and the positive influence he has on these young men.”

The MIAA is grateful for its ongoing partnership with Team Up 4 Community (TU4C), which began in March 2021. This collaboration encourages schools to submit their community service projects online, providing sports teams with an opportunity to showcase their efforts and demonstrate the positive impact they have on their communities.

Between August and January, a total of 200 community service projects were submitted, involving 10,901 student-athletes. These projects raised $218,811 for charitable causes and contributed 49,952 hours of service to local communities.

A presentation of this award will take place at Stoughton High School in the coming weeks.

Reminder: The second half of the 2024-2025 MIAA Community Service Challenge runs from January 15, 2025, through May 15, 2025. Winners will be selected shortly after May 15th.

Thank you to all MIAA member schools and student-athletes who participated in this year’s service challenge. To view all submitted projects, click here.
