Athletic Consent Workshops

This workshop will include co-presenters, sharing a model for consent education workshops. Purpose behind bringing consent workshops to your school, specifically working through Athletic Teams. How Cambridge Athletics is working to create a Culture of Consent, and why all schools should be prioritizing this education in health classes and among athletic teams, and student athletes.

Workshop Objectives:

·         Provide an understanding of Consent Culture, what is it? What does it include topics such as bullying, hazing, the power dynamic on teams, locker room talk, etc. 

·         Why it is important to create a culture of consent?

·         Why it is important to address through athletic teams and student athletes?

When: Wednesday, November 13, 2024, from 8:30 am to 11:30 am

Thomas Arria | Cambridge Rindge and Latin School
Thomas Arria is currently in his 24th year in education, and 20th as an Athletic Director. His leadership in athletics has ranged from small catholic schools to some of the largest urban school districts, including Nashua, NH and he has spent the last 10 years in Cambridge Public Schools. Tom guides one of the largest high school athletics departments in the state, as Cambridge Rindge and Latin offers 42 athletic opportunities over three seasons, and the upper schools offer 5 seasons of intercity intramural seasons. Tom also serves as Vice President of the Massachusetts interscholastic Athletic Association Board of Directors.

Caitlin Dube | Consent Counts
Caitlin Dube, Ed.M., M.F.A., is an educational consultant and designer. Caitlin (she/her/hers) is an Educator, Poet, Activist, and parent with over 15 years of experience working with young people and the adults who support them. Caitlin’s experience developing and facilitating comprehensive, dynamic, learner-centered curriculum and professional development led her to complete a master’s degree in human development and education at Harvard’s Graduate School of Education. She is an experienced educator and holds an M.F.A. in Creative Writing from Columbia University, and a B.A. in English and American Language and Literature from Harvard College. Caitlin consults with schools, districts, and non-profits to reimagine learning in a variety of contexts.

She is an experienced designer with expertise in organizational design, project management, and transformative programming. Caitlin is inspired to provide loving alternatives in order to shift us all toward a compassionate future where all people live in just relationships with themselves and their community.
