Committee Mission Statement
Advises on sports medicine issues as they relate to rules writing, programs, and services; monitors and disseminates information relating to sports medicine; works with the MIAA to educate the constituency on sports medicine issues.
Committee Charge
In pursuing its purpose, the Association promotes the safety and health of participants in interscholastic athletics. The Board of Directors delegates to the Sports Medicine Committee the responsibility for specific functions involved in proper administration of the Association’s responsibilities.
The powers and duties of the sports medicine committee shall be those needed to advise on sports medicine issues as they relate to rules writing, programs, and services; however, these duties and powers may be designated in detail by the Board of Directors or by the Assembly.
Committee Make-Up
The voting membership of the MIAA Sports Medicine Committee is:
- One principal (or assistant principal) from each of the nine (9) athletic districts
- One athletic director from each of the nine (9) athletic districts
- One school superintendent appointed by M.A.S.S.
- One school committee member appointed by MASC
- Three Physicians/Physician's Assistants
- Three Member School Athletic Trainers
- Two active coaches – one representing each gender
- One game officials – one representing each gender (actively enrolled with MIAA)
- One “at-large” representative may be appointed by Board of Directors
