Mansfield High School Student Receives MIAA Student-Athlete of the Month Award December 2023

Emma Redding, a senior at Mansfield High School, has been chosen as the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association’s Student of the Month for
December. A three-sport athlete for the Hornets, Emma excels in Field Hockey and Outdoor Track and Field while being a partner in Unified Bocce in the Winter. As a 4-year varsity field hockey player, she served as a captain during her Senior year and was also the recipient of the Leda Levine Award for Character and Leadership as a Junior. As a partner in Unified Bocce for two years, Emma participated in the inaugural season which generated excitement throughout the school. She is a four-year letter winner in Outdoor Spring Track and Field.
Academically, Emma has been a shining star at Mansfield High School garnering a 4.39 Weighted GPA. In the Summer of 2023, Emma enrolled in the Pre-College Program at Brown University for students interested in medicine. Prior to that she was enrolled in a course at Tufts University in the Spring of 2023 for Community Health Issues. She has received the University of Rochester George Eastman Young Leaders Award for Leadership, Grades and Extracurricular Involvement. Emma is enrolled in many AP classes and received distinction for receiving scores of 3 or higher in more than 4 AP courses. Emma is also a member of the National Honor Society, World Language Honor Society, and received the Golden Hornet Award for three-years.
An active member of the community, Emma has been a leader in the Best Buddies Program for 4 years, serving for three years on the Executive Board and 2 years as Vice President. A member of World Travel Club, Emma travelled to Spain with students and staff in the Summer of 2023. A Co-Founder of Mansfield's Northeast Science Bowl Team during her Junior Year, Emma is also a member of Mansfield's Leadership Academy. Emma also organized a Special Olympics Event at MHS in the Spring of 2023 and has volunteered as a Mansfield Youth Field Hockey Coach. Lastly, but certainly not the least, Emma has participated in the Jimmy Fund Walk and Best Buddies Friendship Walk.
Nominated by Tricia Donahue, School Counselor at Mansfield High School, this what Ms. Donahue said about Emma, “A natural leader, Emma is a member of the Mansfield High School Leadership Academy and was invited to participate in the MIAA Leadership Conference and the Leadership Summit here at MHS. She is the co-founder of the first Mansfield team for the Northeast Science Bowl at UConn and is an Executive Board Member of our school’s chapter of Best Buddies. Emma is also heavily involved in athletics and has earned the respect of her coaches and teammates. Emma is the team captain of our Varsity Field Hockey team, and does Varsity Spring Track, Unified Bocce, and club field hockey. She also was a gymnast for several years. In addition to being a talented athlete, Emma is involved in several clubs, including Spanish Club, Ping Pong Club, and World Travel Club. Emma also holds a part-time job at a local ice cream shop and has spent time volunteering for the Matt Brown Foundation and Jimmy Fund walk, coaching youth field hockey, and tutoring students who need extra help. I am truly impressed with how graciously Emma juggles everything she has on her plate.”
