MIAA Wrestling Committee Highlights

The following are highlights from the MIAA Wrestling Committee meeting that took place October 2, 2024 at the MIAA Offices in Franklin. These highlights are not intended as a substitute for official meeting minutes, which will be posted if approved by the respective commitments at a future date.

• Attendees:
  • 14 voting members
  • 3 tournament directors
• Election of Officers:
  • Chair: Keith Poloskey 
  • Vice Chair: Ann Palumbo
  • Secretary: Zach Blaszak
• Winter Tournament Updates:
  • All tournament directors are continuing to search for sites.
  • Sent out a host school site survey to better understand the specifics regarding those interested in hosting.
  • Phil, along with TD’s, contacted 10 large venues to host All-States but no one was willing or able to host. 
  • A subcommittee has been formed to review the current All-State qualifications and determine if there's a need to reduce the number of qualifiers. This aims to ensure a safe experience for everyone in attendance, especially given the limited space on the first day of the All-State tournaments in high school gyms.
• New England’s Format Update:
  • New England’s will take place on Saturday and Sunday this year. 
• Other Actions:
  • Reviewed the 2024-25 Wrestling Format, which was already approved last spring.
  • Subcommittee created to review the 2025-27 Wrestling Proposed Alignments and send proposal to full committee. 
  • Reviewed and voted on rule change proposals.
