Ava Asken of Clinton HS: Student-Athlete of the Month for April 2024

Posted: May 31, 2024

The Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association is proud to announce that Ava Asken of Clinton High School is the recipient of its Student-Athlete of the Month for April 2024.

A Standout on and Off the Field

Nominated by her softball coach, Angela Kaizer, Ava excels as both a student and an athlete. She captains the cross country, indoor track and field, and softball teams. As a runner, she holds the CHS record in the mile.

Ava's dedication is evident in her leadership. During her senior cross-country season, she wasn't the only girl interested, but the only one to commit. She then rallied classmates to join, forming a team that even competed at the State meet.

On the softball field, Ava's talents shine. Recently nominated as the Worcester Telegram and Gazette Player of the Week, her passion for the sport extends beyond her own game. Ava coaches several youth teams, helping create a strong feeder system for Clinton softball. Her young players admire her, aspiring to be "just like Coach Ava."

Academic Excellence

Ava's achievements extend far beyond athletics. As valedictorian, she boasts a stellar GPA of 4.428 and membership in the National Honor Society. Her academic accolades include the Advanced Placement Scholar Award, John and Abigail Adams scholarship, Superintendent's Award, and recognition on the Academic All-State teams for both cross country and indoor track.

During her junior year, Ava's academic prowess continued. She won the Harvard Book Award and achieved the highest average in AP Language, Criminal Justice, Health and Wellness, and the challenging AP Calculus BC.

Committed to the Community

Ava's dedication extends beyond the classroom and athletic fields. She has played a role in planning a senior citizen dance for Clinton and organized a drive to collect youth softball and baseball equipment for the town's students.

Additionally, Ava has been instrumental in WHEAT community connections, a local organization dedicated to serving Clinton residents. Her contributions helped WHEAT gain recognition as a direct service program of the United Way of Tri-County.
