The Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association is proud to announce that Coco Clopton, a senior at Swampscott High School has been selected as the Student of the Month for December. Coco is a stellar athlete for the Big Blue excelling in field hockey, swimming, and lacrosse. Her Coach and nominator Courtney Russo shared Coco has been a 4-year starter for Field Hockey and Lacrosse at SHS. She is captain of field hockey, swimming and lacrosse teams and has received the Coaches Award, Player Award, MVP, and Rookie of the Year in lacrosse. Rewarded for her success, the Salem News and Lynn Item named her an All Star. She has committed to University of Massachusetts-Lowell for lacrosse and is excited about this endeavor.

As Coach Russo said, “Coco is always the hardest worker on the field or in the pool. She pushes herself and inspires others to work harder around her and each team that Coco is on is better because of her. She is coachable and always looking to improve and asking for input or suggestions. Coco is thoughtful and takes her role as captain very seriously. She makes sure that all the underclassmen are included and goes out of her way to make sure everyone is supported and feels connected to the team.”

A vital part of the community and leader for her peers, Coco has maintained 4.0 GPA and received the French Award at SHS. She has been a member of DECA and competed in the local competition for three years. Coco is a member of ADL and helps to work with local and state organizations to help spread the message about equity. Coco has been the vice president of the class of 2024 since freshman year. She has helped raise money and worked at numerous events to support her class. Coco is a regular volunteer at our Senior Center where she helps serve and work with our senior members of the community. Coco helped start the "Game Changers" in Swampscott; a program where our sports teams host and serve a dinner to the Senior Center.
