MIAA Executive Director's Update: August 22, 2024

Posted: August 22, 2024

Welcome back.  I hope you had some time to re-energize and re-focus during the summer while also spending time with family and friends. I am also hopeful that you have a successful 2024-2025 athletic and academic year. Having been a superintendent, principal, assistant principal, teacher, and coach, I am aware of the demands of your job and the countless hours that go into the success of your school. Thank you for all you continue to do on behalf of the Association.

This Summer, our office continued to celebrate Massachusetts and showcase our Association and its members on a national level. In June we were the host state for the NFHS Summer Meeting in which over 800 attendees from every state collaborated on various topics facing high school athletic programs. We were able to play a vital role as lead presenters in several of the meetings.

In July, Assistant Directors Pete Smith and Phil Napolitano traveled to Indianapolis with 4 student-athletes from Massachusetts to attend a leadership workshop. Everyone reported it was a huge success.  Also, I have continued to partner with NEASC to pilot a program to improve athletic programs by creating a standards-based review; this is also getting great interest from various Associations around the country.

These three examples have confirmed what I have always said, “Massachusetts is a leader in interscholastic athletics at a national level.” This is due to the commitment you have made to your community and our Association as we continue to Grow Courageous Leaders.
